Why Edelman?
If you’re reading this blog, you probably already know that social media is the next big topic in public relations. But you may not know that Edelman is helping to leading the charge in use of social media in public relations campaigns. Edelman began claiming its spot as a forerunner back in 1995, when they became the first PR firm on the Internet and they haven’t looked back since!
As the years passed by, Web sites lead to blogs and Edelman was there. In 2004 president and CEO Richard Edelman began his own blog, 6 a.m. Currently, Edelman executives and employees publish more than 30 other blogs, including one from Phil Gomes, who will be leading the educators discussions on Saturday.
If Web experience wasn’t enough to prove a standard excellence for Edelman, they also have a trophy shelf of industry awards to their name. Advertising Age named Edelman a 2007 “A-List” agency, and in 2006, PRWeek named Edelman Large Agency of the Year.
Last summer the firm hosted the New Media Summit to bring together journalists, marketers and educators to talk about new media. The summit helped Edelman start a discussion about social media in public relations and discover what public relations students were missing in their education. After a conversation with Kaye Sweetser of UGA, during which she shared ideas that arose during the recent UGA Connect conference, they began laying the groundwork for a hands-on training bootcamp.
So when you come to the Edelman Digital Bootcamp at UGA this weekend, you can rest assured you’ll be learning from the best!
